Ed Martel was an 11th round choice by the Yankees in the 1987 amateur draft out of De La Salle High School in New Baltimore, Michigan. He spent several years in their farm system, getting as high as AAA Columbus, but never pitched with the Yankees.

Ed "Whitey" Ford was signed by the New York Yankees in 1947. He made his Major League Debut with the Yankees on July 1, 1950, and finished the season with a 9 - 1 record with a 2.81 ERA. Whitey played 16 years with the Yankees from 1950 - 1967, missing the 1951, and 1952 seasons because of military service (Korean War). Whitey played his last game with the Yankees on May 21, 1967.
