Rorion Gracie came up with the idea (because he wanted to promote and prove that Brazilian jiu jitsu was the most superior form of Martial Arts) and he teamed with Art Davie who sold the idea to Bob Meyrowitz in 1993, but they sold it to Zuffa, LLC in like 2001. I believe Rorion was also the one who designed the octagon! The R in Rorion is pronounced like an H also. and it is the best
