There's no set answer to that.

The laws aren't the same everywhere.

Kids are often allowed to ride small and slow bikes on the sidewalk.

Adults are generally NOT allowed to ride on the sidewalk.

But local regulations might apply. You really have to check what goes for where you live.

These regulations are usually controlled by local ordinances and it is impossible to give a general answer. You will need to ask in your local town or city.

The laws in most areas require bicycles to follow the same rules as motor vehicles. Local ordinances can be more restrictive than state law so you need to pay close attention. Many local ordinances ban bicycles on sidewalks in central business districts- busy downtown areas. Outside those districts many jurisdictions allow children 12 and under to ride on the sidewalk. If you must cover some distance on a sidewalk you should remember to drive slowly, no faster than pedestrians walk, in order to avoid collisions. You should be extremely careful at intersections if you're on the pedestrian walkways. If you should be involved in an accident, the local laws will determine liability. You need to know those laws wherever you travel on your bike.
