Best Answer

It was first flown at the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. Designed by Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin, the five linked rings are said to represent the five major continents of the world linked in friendship, and their colours (blue, yellow, black, green and red) were chosen because at least one of these colours appears on the national flags of every country in the world.
