∙ 15y agoThey first joined the league in 1876 as the Red Stockings. The name changed to the Beaneaters amd the Doves before being called the Braves in 1912 at the suggestion of Johnny Montgomery Ward. The Braves moved to Atlanta from Milwaukee in 1966. -----
The Braves are one of the two remaining charter teams of the National League when it was founded in 1876 (the Cubs are the other). The Braves played in Boston in 1876 and were known as the Red Caps.

∙ 13y agoThe Boston Bees (as they were at that time in their history) were bought by Lou Perini in 1940, changing their name back to the Braves in the process. Perini announced on March 13, 1953 that he was moving the team to Milwaukee, after fellow Baseball owner, Bill Veeck, announced that he had failed in his quest to bring his St. Louis Browns to the same Wisconsin city.
