The first summer Olympics held in the U.S. was in St. Louis in 1904. Those games were supposed to be held in Chicago, but were moved to St. Louis in order to be part of the worlds fair commemorating the centennial of the Lousiana Purchase. Interestingly, Chicahgo is currently bidding to host the 2016 summer games.

If your talking about most total medals, the answer is 1904 when the USA won a record 235 Total medals. 75 Gold, 82 Silver and 78 Bronze.
