Men coming out of the service or high school grads in Detroit would try out for the Tigers team and then join a league through work or join a minor league team already formed. Baseball was a big past time and love of many young men before T.V.

In 1950, the MLB schedule called for 154 games for all teams, however, due to rain outs that were not made up, the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates played only 153 games each. They finished in the last four places in the National League and the missed games would have no bearing on the final standings so were not made up.
