The Vecheka was Lenin's secret police; however it was more commonly known as the Cheka.

The name was an acronym for the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution and Sabotage. It was later changed to the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution, Profiteering and Corruption.
