The US Open is played on an acrylic hard court. The Australian Open is played on a synthetic hard court. The French Open is played on clay and Wimbledon is a grass court. Grass courts are considered the fastest, while clay courts slow the ball down the most and provide a higher bounce. The speed of the hard courts can be affected by the amount of sand in the paint - the more sand in the top paint, the slower the ball bounces.
