Possibly that was figure skaters Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding. Harding's then husband, Jeff Gillooly, and bodyguard Shaun Eckardt arranged for Kerrigan to be attacked just prior to the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer to get her out of the way so Harding could have a better chance at winning. The attacker, a man by the name of Shane Stant, clubbed Kerrigan in the knee with a metal baton after a Kerrigan practice session in Detroit in January, 1994. Kerrigan's injury was not serious and she recovered in time to compete in the Olympics where she won the silver medal. Harding finished well out of medal contention.
