I am adding to the answer because the information supplied by the responder has some noteworthy information on the NY Yankees. That answer can be seen in the last two paragraphs. The best New York Yankee lifetime winning percentage by a starting picther is held by Lefty Gomez. He pitched in the 1930's and had a winning percentage of .839. Whitey Ford had a career .690 win percentage for a career, one of the best for any team. Ron Guidry's .893 win percentage in 1978 is also one of the best for any starting pitcher on any team.
That would depend on what team has the best winning percentage in the league. Generally, the wild card team plays the division winner with the best winning percentage. However, if the division winner with the best winning percentage is in the same division as the wild card team, then the wild card team will play the division winner with the second best winning percentage and the division winner with the best winning percentage will play the other division winner. MLB is the only major sport that sets up their playoff system this way. This would keep the Yankees and Red Sox from playing in the first round of the playoffs.
As of the 2013 season, the college football team that has the best winning percentage in Division 1 is Old Dominion with a winning percentage of .767. Old Dominion has only played 60 games in Division 1 though. Notre Dame is 2nd with a percentage of .733 Michigan is 3rd with a percentage of .732

According to today's Baltimore Sun, "The Steelers have the best home winning percentage (.722) in the NFL since 1970." http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/football/bal-ravensscout0928,0,734965.htmlstory Must be a steelers fan since he doesn't include the year 66,67,68,69 in which the Steelers were terrible. Include those numbers and the steelers do not have the best home winning percentage. Since 1966 the Kansas City Chiefs have the best winning percentage followed by the Packers.
Through Super Bowl XLII, that would be the Carolina Panthers at 6-3 for a winning percentage of .667 and the Baltimore Ravens at 5-3 for a winning percentage of .625. For teams that have been around a little longer than the Panthers and Ravens, it would be the New England Patriots at 21-13 for a winning percentage of .618 and the Green Bay Packers at 24-15 for a winning percentage of .615.
