The 1998 New York Yankees or the 1906 Chicago Cubs
There are different ways you could look at best team. One is by the teams record, or the team who won the world series. The team with the best record in 2008 was the Los Angeles Angels, but they got eliminated in the first round by the Boston Red Sox. The team that won the World Series that year was the Philadelphia Phillies. So it is more of your decision.
The team with the best regular season record to lose was the 1906 Chicago Cubs who went 116-36 and lost the World Series to the Chicago White Sox.
