∙ 15y ago50 home runs in a single season has been accomplished 41 times, by a total of 26 players. Babe Ruth, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa each did it four times. Most recent occurences were in 2007, when both Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees (AL) and Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers (NL) achieved the milestone. Fielder's father Cecil Fielder, hit 51 homers in 1990.
