National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell has never played on a college or NFL team. He was a 3 sport star in High School (Football, Basketball, and Baseball), and captained all 3 in his senior year, earning his school's Athlete of the Year award. Injuries sustained in HS prevented him from playing College Football.
His affiliation with the NFL began as an intern for then NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle. As the years progressed, he worked for the New York Jets, Lamar Hunt in the AFC, and under former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, running several key operations for the NFL, and eventually being appointed as the NFL's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in 2001. He succeeded Tagliabue in September 2006.
