First of all, they need start young, and have to just LOVE figure skating that they cannot live without practice. But the most important thing is their body shape, length, size, and weight. They need to be long(but if figure skaters are too tall, they wouldn't look natural, because the blade is like 5cm long.)and thin but have big and thick bones. This allows them to be able to jump high and ride smoothly. Also, they have to be pretty, especially if they are girls, because if they are not pretty, even if their skills are excellent, you cannot see the talent in that girl. They have to be able to control theirselves, because they cannot have much fat in their body. A lot of fat means less skills to figure skate. They have to control what they eat, and when they eat. For example, Yuna Kim, the Korean goldmedalist, she is beatiful, not too tall, not too short, skinny, has long legs, not much fat, skillful, practices a lot, has big and thick bones, log arms, small boobs(which does not shake when she jumps, so helpful-no offense, Yuna!^^), light movements, and etc. I am not Korean, but personally, I think she is a perfect example of golden section. * Yuna started taking figure skating seriously at the age of 7.
