Baseball bat size depends on how tall you are.

When buying a bat, rest the larger part of the bat on the ground next to your leg, if the top part, (where your hands go) is about to your hip, its a good size. Anything smaller will not be useful and anything bigger, might hurt you.

Mini baseball bats have been a popular souvenir sold at ballparks for decades. They commonly come in sizes of about 14", 16" 18", and 21". Basically a Mini Baseball Bat would be a size smaller than a youth model bat, smaller that a bat that could be used for play. Mini baseball bats were made to be sold as souvenirs, and not for use.

There seems to be a confusion here. The Minor Leagues are adult ballplayers of the so-called Farm or AAA teams ( usually pronounced Triple-A) MInor league baseball is played under the same rules, equipment policies etc- and wooden bats are standard. The Little Leagues have used aluminum bats since about l974 and there is concern that these produce a higher (Muzzle velocity) than the wooden bats. Ironically when the metallic bats were introduced part of the argument was safety- they cannot split or break in use ( as wooden bats do). Now it seems the metallic bats have hazards of their own and there has been much legal fuss about this in recent years in New York State. I hope this answers your question. Industrial Leagues- that"s something else.

Honestly just depends on how the kid likes it.. generally you want to have him hold it straight out and if he can hold it with out struggling it is a good weight, size is just on preference
