3rd baseman,2nd baseman, 1st baseman. When an announcer talks about plays and uses numbers he is using the numbers that have been assigned to each position. they are:

1. Pitcher 2. Catcher 3. 1st base 4. 2nd base 5. 3rd base 6. Shortstop 7. Left field 8. Center field 9. Right field

The same things are done with errors. For example a scoring decision of E-6 means an error committed by the shortstop.

In double plays, the order of the numbers is based on the order of who got the ball. The most common double play is 6-4-3 and numbers can be repeated if the same player had the ball twice in the same play. For example if the 1st baseman picked up a ground ball, then threw the ball to second, then the second baseman threw the ball back to 1st base, that would be a 3-4-3 double play.
