It takes a long time to get to be strong enough for a girl to start pointe. It took me ten years. This past fall was my first year on pointe; i didn't even where my pointe shoes for my recital because i am still not strong enough. it takes time and patience.

Why is the age 13 for pointe?

By age 13 girls who want to start pointe are mostly through puberty. Their bones in their ankles are strong enough to support themselves on pointe. They will not stint the growth of bones in their feet, because (again) they are mostly through puberty and done growing. Also, by age 13 (if they started ballet when they were younger) they should be strong and have good turnout. At 13, girls should really be able to decide if they actually want to start doing pointe or do ballet at all.

How old do you have to be in ballet to have pointe shoes?

The age that you start on pointe differs depending where you do ballet. Some schools even get girls as young as seven to go on pointe. Though I do not entirely agree with this as their legs are not developed or strong enough yet. It also can take up to 6 or so months once you get your pointe shoes (or even before) to complete training exercises to make sure you are ready and capable enough to go on pointe! It really all depends on a. how strong your legs are and b. when your teacher says she wants you to go on pointe! :D p.s. I started pointe at 11 :)

Im 14 and 10 stone you want to start ballet what shoes do you start with?

Can you teach yourself Pointe Work Ballet?

It is possible to teach yourself how to do pointe, but the real reason ballet teachers don't put you on pointe when you want is because it is extremely dangerous to your body especially your ankles. I know several people you went on pointe when they weren't ready and now they can hardy walk let alone dance. To tell if your ankles are strong enough to start pointe work is by an x-rayIf the doctor says it is safe to start on pointe you can teach yourself by videos.GOOD LUCK!!!

How many ballet grades are there and which grade do you normally start pointe work?

Acutally - it depends on where you go. If you dance with BTDA for example, it goes to grade 5, then intermediate and up. If, like myself, you dance with the royal ballet school, it goes to grade 8. pointe work does not start at a specific grade. I dance with the North Wales School of Dance and really, the pointe work strats around grade 5. But the ballet teachers will only let you start if they think that you are ready (ankles are strong, point is good) You really have to work hard and pointe is quite dangerous, you can brake your ankles.

Im on my second year of ballet how long do i have until i get on pointe?

It all depends on your age and how much progress you've made in the field. Traditionally, young children interested in a career in ballet usually start dancing en pointe after they are over the age of eleven or if they are accepted in one of the ballet academies (acceptance age range varies), at the end of the first year of study or during their second year; therefore in some ballet academies girls may start to take pointe classes when they are as young as ten. The reason that girls do not start when they are younger is because the bones in their feet are still growing and can be permanently damaged; also their foot and leg muscles are not yet strong enough to support them.

What happens if you are not ready for pointe?

you just need to wait until your ballet instructor thinks your ready, our if you haven't a ballet teacher start going to a ballet school.

Do you get your pointe shoes right away when you start ballet?

No, you don't. It is important to learn the basics of ballet before starting pointe work. Teachers suggest that you train for a few years to establish the required strength and technique.

Can you take pointe without any experience?

No.Your supposed to take ballet for a couple of years. Pointe requires a lot of strength in the toes, feet, and legs. If you were to just put on pointe shoes and start dancing, you would have the risk of injuring yourself greatly. But if you have ballet experience, then pointe would be okay to try.

What are the shoes you need to wear in ballet?

you start with just simple ballet flats, usually made from canvas. can be split soled. then you progress to demi pointe's which help to build up ankle support and get you used to the feeling of boxes and then pointe's. very hard! :)

Can you do ballet at any age?

You can start ballet at any age but if you expect to dance en pointe you wont. I started ballet at age 2 and i got my shoes when i was 12 it takes 8 years minimum to get pointe shoes but most school dont let girls start intill there 12 or older. It might be hard to get into a begginers class because most girls are already on pointe you might get into a class with 11 year olds or younger. I recomend doing a diffrent type of dance like jazz or lyrical because they dont need as much trainingListen, I knew a girl that started ballet at 7 years old (and that's pretty late) but she is one of the best dancers ever!! (I mean, she's not exactly as famous as like, Baryshnikov, but she is still really good! (:
