Naturally, the Mets' first scheduled game was rained out. Things got worse the next day, April 11, 1962, when they were forced to play. Don Zimmer made an error on their first defensive play. Starting (and losing) pitcher Roger Craig gave up the first run on a balk. The host Cardinals won the game 11-4. It was the first of 9 straight losses for the Mets, an appropriate beginning for a season in which they lost a record 120 games.
