Going to college just increases your chances of being discovered by scouts. Some players have not attended college, or didn't even play football in college. Teams have try outs which anyone can attend.

You need to go to college if you want to play in the NFL. It's possible to get "special consideration" from the league to declare for the draft before you graduate (like Jameis Winston and Johnny Manziel did), but without it there are four routes to NFL eligibility:1) Graduate from college - the most common path
