I wouldn't say that the javelin throw is unpopular. It is a sport that is very difficult to master and not very many people can become good at it. It is a sport, in the United States at least, that doesn't get much attention because of all the other sports that are played here. And that might be the reason other countries do not pay much attention to javelin. They are watching football and tennis and cricket more than they are watching javelin.
