There is no rover in Baseball. Some softball leagues allow a rover, which is simply an extra fielder. The rover usually plays in shallow center-field, but like every other player (except the pitcher and catcher), can play anywhere on the field at any time.

∙ 15y agoThere is no rover position in baseball! You would be talking SOFTBALL. Softball is not and never will be baseball. It is a replacement game for those of diminished skills and those who never really had any and are trying to prove they could have been something years ago and it is far too late.

∙ 11y agoSlow pitch softaball includes a 10th fielder. Usually this fielder is an additional center fielder, playing either left center or right center. The extra player may also play a rover position, usually just outside the infield. This allows three people to play more deeply to cover long fly balls, and still have a player to field the bloop hits that just leave the infield. This is similar in princible to a 'shift' in baseball, where players leave their normal positions to have a better chance of fielding a ball.
