22:17 record set by Pre
The 2 mile record at my high shool was set in 1945 and was sub- nine minutes. I wonder what was the world record at that time?
The world record is 12.37.35 set on May 31st 2004 by Kenenisa Bekele This is NOT the world record for the 3 mile--it's the world record for the 5000m. The world record for the 3mile is probably about 5 sec or so faster, but I can't seem to find any info on it.
the 10k (6.2 miles) is 26:17 by Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia
There is no such thing as a "5 mile marathon". An official marathon is 26.2 miles and only 26.2 miles. There are many other races of different lengths, but they are not marathons.
It was Steve Ovett's world record in 1978 at Crystal Palace I believe, with a time of 8 Mins13.5secs. I know this record stood for some years but has it been beaten? the world record 7:58.61 by Daniel Komen in 1997 the indoor world record is 8:04.35, by Kenenisa Bekele in 2008

The question is a little unclear as to whether it is the 100m swimming or running world record. The world record for the age group 50 - 54 years mens 100m freestyle is 54.61 seconds held by Paul Trevison
