The NCAA changed the rules after the 1978 season - before that a kicker could keep an old roughed-up ball to use when he kicked, after that the NCAA started supplying NEW footballs for use in all games - and required the kickers to use those. These records are likely to stand for some time.

37, Jennifer Grubbs, Hoffman Estates (Conant),1994. Grubbs was a multiple sport athlete for her Illinois High School when she kicked a 37 yard filed goal in a game. In 1994, she went 2 for 3 on field goal attempts, and was 6 for 7 in 1995 as a senior.
Four players share the NFL record for longest field goal (63 yards): Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints in 1970; Jason Elam of the Denver Broncos in 1998; Sebastian Janikowski of the Oakland Raiders in 2011; and David Akers of the San Francisco 49ers in 2012.
Both Elam and Janikowski tied the record in Denver. Elam's kick was in Mile High Stadium; Janikowski's was in Sports Authority Field at Mile High (formerly Invesco Field). Dempsey's field goal against the Detroit Lions at Tulane Stadium was a game winner. Akers' kick was against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
Elam, Janikowski and Akers kicked their field goals at the end of the first half. Dempsey's kick gave the Saints a 19-17 victory over the Lions with two seconds left in the game.
