I'm guessing you actually mean hybrid vs drop bar road bike. Road bikes are the ultimate for travelling light, long and fast, pushing hard all the way, on decent road surfaces.
They're not a good choice for casual riding, or for carrying stuff on the bike, or for rough surfaces.
A hybrid will be a little slower, it'll put you in a slightly more upright position. It'll be able to take wider tires for a comfier ride, and to do better on rough surfaces. It can take rack and fenders, so you can carry stuff and not be sprayed by road grime if you ride in the rain.
