NTRP in tennis stands for "National Tennis Rating Program". This program is a creation of the USTA (United States Tennis Association). It is rating system that helps put tennis players in different leagues based on their tennis skill level. If you play league tennis you will often be asked what level do you play? The levels are 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 7.0. Yes, there are a lot of levels, but for good reason. They want the tennis matches to be competitive. Plus, your tennis level can fluctuate from year to year based on your league performance. How do I know which level I fit in? The USTA used to conduct testing sessions at local tennis clubs periodically throughout the year. Now they rely more on self rating. You read through the list describing the skills at each level and consult with a local tennis pro to determine your rating. It is important to select the correct tennis rating to avoid being at too low a level or too high a level.
