Powerplay is a rule in which the only 2 or 3 fielders can should be outside the 30 yard circle.....This is an advantage for the batsmen to score quick runs. There are 3 powerplays in one day cricket, the first one is commpulsory for the first ten overs, and the 2nd and the 3rd powerplays are 5 overs each.....T20 cricket one compulsory powerplay for the first six overs........

A PowerPLay in cricket is a fielding restriction; lasting for 5 or 10 overs at a tome. there is a mandatory 10 over powerplay and 2 spells of 5 over powerplay time. the 10 over powerplay means at most 2 fielders can be outside the 30-yard circle. the other 2 pells of 5-over powerplay time are chosen by the fielding team and the batting team. for these, the limit is 3 fielders outside the 30-yard circle.

it is designed to help accelerate the run rate in a limited - overs match.

A powerplay in cricket are fielding restrictions; typically only two fielders are allowed out of a 30 yard circle around the wickets. The idea is to encourage the batsman to score runs quickly by hitting balls to the boundary where there are few fielders. A problem with 50 over cricket is a "quiet" period after the ball goes soft (and thus doesn't go off the bat so fast) and the last 10 overs when teams would try to score quickly. Extra powerplay blocks have been introduced, again to encourage batsman to hit out more during this quieter period.
