What is it meant by the term the third world?

It means people in a third world have a different way of living then us, meaning they dont have as good of a life of us. North Korea is a third world country because no one knows what is inside of it because they block people in & out. Haiti is a third world contry because it doesn't have electricity and cool stuff like we do. It's a REAL poor contry, man. The third world is a term that started right after WW2 during the cold war. It was meant to represent the states that weren't alligned either with the Soviet-Communist side or the US/NATO-Capitalist side. Under that definition many well-developed and rich countries are third world because they are neutral. It was used to show the seperations in economy, politics and society. Capitalist-First world, Communist-Second world, everyone else-Third world. As it was mostly poor countries that were non-aligned, the term became more associated with poor countries and so the more modern concept of third world came into being.

The term "third world country" is often used to describe developing countries, which are countries that have a lower level of economic development than more developed countries. In general, third world countries tend to have lower per capita income levels, higher rates of poverty and disease, and less access to basic infrastructure like clean water and sanitation. Examples of third world countries include many African countries, like Somalia and South Sudan, as well as some countries in Asia and South America, like Afghanistan and Haiti.

What is another word for poor countries?

third-world nations the origin of this term dates back to the emperial ages when the status of countries were labelled according to their ability to control other nations, and those countries which came under such subjugation were typically in "third-worlds," a European term for less technologically developed countries with foreign cultures and languages. then those countries which were part of the "third world" did not develop as rapidly as "first world" countries largely due to the lack of autonomy, and countries from the third world became synonymous with relatively poor countries, hence the modern usage of the phrase.
