Consistancy. If you say throw a strike one frame but throw a gutter ball your next ball, that strike is only gonna be worth 10 points; however, if you throw another strike after the previous strike, that's 30 points from 2 frames. That's basically 10 bonus points. So some people might argue that strikes are most important in Bowling, but even if you go 9-spare the entire game, that's a 190 game. That's consistancy for you.

As a kid, I played on a league and was good enough to take 2nd place in a National tournament. So, here are some skills I would recommend:

-Balance. Depending on whether you'll play recreationally or professionally, it will still be important. You'll need to be able to take 3 steps and slide each time you take a shot, and I can't count the number of times I've seen someone slip or loose balance and either flub their shot or fall.

-Good Sportsmanship. In tournaments, you always must be respectful of your competitors and yourself at all times. No booing, insulting, or otherwise putting down a competitor. This one is generally a good rule for any sport.

-PATIENCE!!! One round of bowling is 10 frames, and one frame is 3 shots. That's 30 shots, and they don't always go exactly where you want them to. If a shot goes awry, don't get mad or upset - it will hurt your performance. Just be determined to do better next round.

The most important thing in bowling is to have fun and enjoy the sport. As far as the sport is concerned, knock down as many pins as possible.
