Chess began around 204 BC a Chinese Military Commander Han Xin gave his troops a game which he called shogi (japenese chess) during the winter months to keep their minds sharp. Even back then Chess was considered a game of WAR. In the 1500s Chess was being played in India it was considered (Western Chess) and this is where we have our rules from today. Think about the pieces in the back row you have a castle to keep you safe. Next it is your horse for your soldiers to ride out into battle when they leave the castle. Next to that is the Bishop and back in the beginning of time and to this very day the Bishop (Church) is always trying to influence the King.
The Bishop of old days had a lot more power then today, but on the Chess board they are still sneaky they love the diagonal moves. And we have the King he does not move much he is the leader every chess piece that is his color is there for one thing to protect him no matter what. And of course never forget the Queen she can go any one direction but as far as she wants to. She is sneaky. and then we go right back to the other Bishop, the Horse, and the castle. Also do not forget horses are fast they love to jump. Up 2 over 1 left or right. That is the back row. The front row the PAWNS think of them as your soldiers protecting everyone they can. But most of all if you do the CASTLING move you have one for the king. His personal bodyguard. In the meantime the other Pawns are trying to advance across the field( CHESSBOARD) to get to the opponet back row and if they make they can sacrifice themselves for one of the other pieces who move more freely. Of course while you army is doing all this the other side is playing offense against you and trying to maintain defense. Chess is a game of WAR where you and the other person are the Commanders you decide who goes and who stays. The only way to win the game is to have a better STRATEGY THEN THE OTHER SIDE. The more you play the more STRATEGY you will glean from each battle. Yes Chess is a game of WAR.
