Well, most of the teams are owned by regular people. They get their support from fans (tickets, buying team apperel, food in the stadium) but a lot of it comes from the peoples pockets. I don't think that the city supports the team at all.

Baseball to use for signatures?

The most preferred baseball to have a player sign would be an Official Major League baseball from the League the player played in, that was used during the ball players playing days. The older baseballs could be dated by the signature of the League President stamped on the ball. For example: Willie Mays played from 1951-1973. If you were planning to acquire a Willie Mays signature you would try to find a 1951-1969 Warren Giles Official national League Baseball. The baseball alone would cost you about $200. but it would also add value to your signature. You can also opt to go with a 1970-1986 Charles Feeny Official National League Baseball which was used at the end of Mays' career. This ball would cost you about $60. Your next choice should be an Official Major League baseball made after his playing days. This would be acceptable as well. The same would be for team signed baseballs. A team from the 1980's, a 1980's baseball. (same League) See Related Link below for an Official Major League Baseball Dating Guide

Was there baseball in San Francisco Before The Giants?

Certainly- there was very good minor league baseball on the coast long before any major league expansion. The leagues were mostly, if not all, independent of the major league teams and so they did not readily give up their stars. Some players who probably could have played in the big leagues stayed on in Pacific Coast League teams because major league teams did not want to risk the cost of buying their contracts . Joe Dimagio played on the San Francisco Seals, I think, until the Yankees coughed up the money to buy his contract.

ANSWERAs of 2005 it was approximately $72 per dozen including taxes and shipping, equaling $6 per ball.# # #less than a dollar per baseball, maybe, sounds sort of right but i don't really know this answer but it is all i got for ya.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It's much more than a dollar. Not sure about major league, but I once asked a Division I coach, and he said over $5 each. You can assume major leagues are more than this.
