Can you use girls lacrosse gloves for field hockey?

You can use girls lacrosse gloves as field hockey gloves, they are actually great to be used for outdoor field hockey. In indoor field hockey I would not recommend using them though, because they do not provide enough padding. In indoor you have to get low to the point where your hand is almost on the ground, leaving it exposed, also the ball moves much faster so getting hit does hurt more, so you want well padded gloves for indoor. There are indoor field hockey gloves made, normally they are made for the left hand only but you may want to get another one to protect the right hand as well.

What came first hockey or soccer?

That depends on whether you are referring to Ice Hockey or Field Hockey. Soccer originated with the ancient game of Harpastum, played by the Roman Legions, while Ice Hockey was invented in Canada in the 19th Century. Field Hockey, on the other hand is known to have been played in Ancient Greece at the Olympic Games. There is a monument in the museum at Olympia which depicts two players with typical curved field hockey sticks in a face-off position and a ball between them.

How can you play field hockey left-handed as there are no legal left-handed sticks?

There are a lot of left-handed players in the world including internationals who play with regulation hockey sticks. With a little practice and getting used to the skills you will find that a lot of the skill involved in field hockey uses the left hand more than the right in hockey. For example, the Indian dribble uses the left hand to turn the sticks face from left to right when dribbling. When controling the ball you will find that much of the work is done by the left hand at the top of the stick, and the right hand is really just for support and stabilising the stick.

If the ball is kicked at your hand then no. There is ball to hand and hand to ball. If it is ball to hand, nothing should happen, but if you go and block the ball with your hand or arm, it's a foul. There are exceptions but that is the general rule.

Is there such thing as hand hockey?

Of course there is such a thing as "Hand Hockey"! In the hallways of every hotel where young hockey kids gather you'll find them on hands and knees with a ball made of a wad of athletic tape playing: Hand Hockey. One on one two on two, whatever. Playing dorway to doorway - or any marking they whack the "ball" back and forth trying to smack it past the opponent. Simple and entertaining and fun! Sometimes back home in the basement or living room the game goes on with an furniture as the "goal lines" or maybe a rug... anything at hand works and as long as mom doesn't have a lamp broken the game is a success.
