If you are a competitive runner, i.e. you run track or cross country, anything under 7 minutes is fairly good - probably enough to place in the top half of any of your cross country meets and put up a respectable track time - while anything under 6 is very good - probably enough to place in the top fifth of your cross country meets or top 4ish in track. If you can get under 5:30 you will probably be one of the fastest people in your age group in your entire school and will probably be able to finish in the top tenth of cross country meets and top 2 or 3 of most track meets, assuming you're running the 1600/mile (A 5:30 mile doesn't always translate to sprinting speed).

However, if you're not a runner, and merely wondering whether you're in shape, I would say a physically fit 14 year old should be able to run a mile in under 9 minutes. However, more important than the time is the ability to run a mile without walking. If you're someone who has never run before and rarely exercises and you run a 12 minute mile, don't panic. Just run. If you run a mile 4-5/7 days for three weeks to a month, I guarantee you'll be able to get down to 9 minutes at the very least.

I am the fastest girl at my school that runs the mile and my PR last year was 5:53 on the very last meet of the season. Yesterday was our first meet of the season this year and I ran a 6:05. A good time would be 6:30. A great time would be 6:00. A fantastic time would be 5:45 or lower. 5:45 is a time that some people think is unreachable for a 14 year old, but I hope to run it this year. If you train hard no goal is unreachable!
