Well it depends are you on JV or Varsity? Varisity: If you can run it in 60 secs then that's really good for a middleshooler. If you can run the 400 in 65 secs that's decent but not all that great anything above that is bad . These are all varsity times s0o0o if your not getting these times right now I wouldn't sweat you'll improve for sure in the next 4 years

So for my team the top 400 runner (on varsity) runs about a 57 and she's really good and in HS. For middle school, I would say about a 75 is a good starting point if your running for JV

No no, for 8th grade girls a 1:05 - 1:10 is good, the record for our county middle school 400m is a 1:03.98. If you are running a minute 400m as an 8th grade girl, wow.. you're really good. I run the 400m and I'm in 7th grade and ran a 1:08 as my best.

Good Luck!

It depends on how you define good. Some people only accept state qualifying times as good, whereas others consider simply doing better than the last time they ran it as a good time. It also depends on where you are in your training. If you train for short sprints, such as the 55m dash or the 100m dash, then a good time for the 400m dash will be slower than a good time for a sprinter that has trained for long sprints. Also, a long distance runner will have a different "good time" as well. Another varying factor is age/level. The frosh, jv, and varsity will all have different times that are good for the 400m dash.

The state qualifying time for girls is 59.75 seconds.

For varsity, the best people we had last year typically ran it in 59-61 seconds. the record 59.62 secs.

For fresh/soph, the record is 60.0 seconds. However, the typical time is around 63 seconds.

As a general rule of thumb, under 60 seconds is amazing, under 70 is good, and under 80 is acceptable.

60-65 seconds is pretty good. Anything under 60 seconds is REALLY good. Under 55 and she should have a full ride to a division 1 college

57.2 secs. This time was set by Vanessa Fielding in 1984 at the Pacific School Games.
