Athlete's foot (also known as ringworm of the foot and tinea pedis) is a fungal infection of the skin. It is caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes in the genus "Trichophyton".

It thrives in wet, warm areas and many common exercise facilities like Swimming Pools, locker rooms, gym floors. It can be avoided by keeping feet clean and dry, there are also various powders and creams that can be bought to treat it.

Athlete's foot, jock itch, and other certain body lesions are caused by the Tinia fungus. Tinia likes nice, dark places that are nearly always moist.

To cure these fungus infections, you want to keep the area as dry as possible and use a good antifungal cream at least twice a day until a week after the itching goes away.
