Yes. Age affects sports performance in many ways. Children at different ages are more responsive to different kinds of training. Children and teens also have less mature systems (usually) which means they do not respond as well to the same type of training and cannot put out the same performance levels as adults. Older adults slowly lose their athletic abilities after the ages of 30 to 40 (depending on the biomotor ability and level of activity).

Well if you're planning to play a sport and be dedicated to it, it requires lots and lots of quality time. You have to attend the majority of practices, obviously or there is no point in participating. Although, if you have a good reason, most coaches and mentors understand. Once you get involved in a sport, it sometimes seems to take up a great deal of time in you life. Trust me, I play a sport and I have said "yup this is my life" on numerous occasions. But hey, I love it and if you love being involved in a sport, don't worry about the time it takes up, it's all worth it in the end. :)

Most professional sports teams want young, fast-paced players. They figure, that while still young, the player can be molded. The older the player, the more of a mindset they have already aquired. Plus, as you get older, your body doesn't work the way it does when your "In your prime".
