I always thought it was a Baseball term. Right off the bat means actions happen right away on contact. Runners are in motion, right off the bat. It can be applied as well to anything as soon as one action is completed, a chain of events occur too.

Why is a baseball bat a lever?

a baseball bat is a "lever" in the way that the ball comes off the bat. When the baseball makes contact with the bat, the bat gives, or bends. What causes the ball to then travel is when the bat snaps back into a straight object. Thus, the bat is, in a way, a lever.

What part of bat enable it to see in the dark?

The bat has eyes, but it's blind. It uses something called echolocation where the bat sends out rays, or sensors. Those rays bounce off of a solid object and back to the bat, so it knows whether to move out of the way or to avoid hitting the object.

What does bpf stand for?

BPF is the Bat Performance Factor. When a bat is tested, it is fixed in a stationery position. A ball is launched at a high speed towards the barrel of the bat. When the ball bounces off of the bat, the speed is recorded to find out how much faster it goes when it comes off of the bat. That is how the BPF is calculated. If the ball comes off of the bat at the same speed, the BPF is 1.00 If the ball comes off of the bat 20% faster, the BPF is 1.20

Can echolocation work in a sound proof room?

Yes. Echolocation works by bouncing waves off of objects. A sound proof room would not allow sound to escape but there are still walls in the room to allow a bat's echolocation to bounce off of and back to the bat.
