NASCAR races at Talladega Superspeedway attract a HUGE number of people to the area. The average attendance of the Sprint Cup races in 2010 at Talledaga was 116,750. A large number of these people will be staying at area hotels, eating at restaurants, drinking at bars, buying stuff at various stores, and each and every one of those purchases will put money in the state's coffers via sales tax as well as inject a huge amount of money into economies in and around the speedway.

How far is it from Birmingham Alabama to Talladega Alabama?

54 miles if you are talking about the town itself. 46 miles if you are talking about the speedway. Here is the route: Take I-20 EAST to AL-77 to TALLADEGA and LINCOLN at EXIT 168. Turn right off the exit ramp onto AL-77 SOUTH to TALLADEGA. Take AL-77 SOUTH to Talladega. This is if you are going to the town itself. To get to the Superspeedway, you would take AL-77 SOUTH to the second road that you approach and make a left onto Speedway Blvd (CO-399), then you would take CO-399 on Speedway Blvd to the Talladega Superspeedway. It will be on your right about 3.5 miles down Speedway Blvd.
