In Rugby Union, there are two centres - the Inside Centre and the Outside Centre. Now, for both centres, long and high tactical kicking is required because in a ruck or maul, the Halfback usually passes it to the Fly-Half. Then the Fly-Half usually punts it into touch. Sometimes the Fly-Half can be involved in the ruck, so instead, one of the centres replace tahat position. If the Halfback is in the ruck, then either the two centres of the Fly-Half acts as the Halfback. If both Halfback and Fly-Half are involved, then the centres have to do the Halfback's job. Separately, the Inside Centre has to be fast and needs strength to break out of tackles sometimes. After a ruck, if the Fly-Half decides to pass, the Inside Centre receives it usually. The Outside Centre has to be even better at tackle breaking than the other Centre so that means he/she needs quite a lot of strength, as much as the Locks do is pretty good. For both Centres, goal kicking is not necessary. Whenever the Inside Centre has the ball and decides to pass, he/she usually passes it to the Outside Centre. Grubber kicking is important for the Outside Centre, so is soccer kicking. When an opponent is willing to tackle the Outside Centre, he/she usually crashes ball (runs straight into he/she with hands-off) or grubbers it instead of doing a side-step or any type of up-and-under kick.

Centres ideally are fast and strong and agile enough to draw in two defenders to tackle them. That way they can pass to the wings, the fastest players who will then be un- marked and can run to score.

In a game of Netball Centre is one of the main players, this is because centre has to make the main pass and if it is intercepted (taken into the other teams hands) then the other team have a better chance of shooting where as if it is not intercepted then you can make the perfect centre pass which can be done in any order you prefer.

I played inside center. Now I play flyhalf. Inside center is usually bigger than the outside center, I think they have the same job as all the backs. And as a back youre supposed to be able to do all the positions. So....all I can say is just get the ball and score that try, sometimes youre the kicker, and usually you dont run as much as the full back... yep. simple.

Centre is a position in rugby played out in the backs. They are usually quite fast with good handling skills and good tacklers. They often are very ofter responsible for setting tries up for their outside players, namely wingers and the fullback.
-
The half backs and backs are formed formed across the pitch as follows the 9- scrum half 10 Outside half
The out side these are "the centres numbered 12 and 13. The role of the centres is to receive that ball and using the best attacking opportunity to break through the opposing defense line or to pass the ball to ether of the wingers (number 11 and 14). Normally the center is fast and large in build with good positional vision. It is usual for the centres to bring the full back in to the game basically making a third centre. This allows the attack to force an over lap with the intention of creating a try scoring situation.

The centre is misnamed as he will actually stand on the edge of the ground, usually with one player inside him (the wing or winger) the centre is usually a collection of a fast, strong and skilled player. The best example is Greg Inglis who is not only very fast but is big enough to run over a small winger. The idea is for the centre to make the big run and attract defenders allowing the faster winger to run through a hole created.

the modern game however has blurred the line between wing and centre, when Australia plays they will generally have the wings and centres swap as they will both be fast enough to play wing and skilled enough to play centre. A good example of this is when the Canterbury Bulldogs had Bryson Goodwin and Josh Morris on the same wing, both fast and skilled and would swap mid game to change the look and off put the defence.
