H is a Hold

A Hold is credited any time a relief pitcher enters a game in a Save Situation, records at least one out, and leaves the game never having relinquished the lead. A pitcher cannot finish the game and receive credit for a Hold, nor can he earn a hold and a save. It is shown in the box score in the following way: Name (H, 4)

An H could also stand for a hit which would mean the number of hits that a Pitcher had gave up.

There are two possible answers to this. If the H is listed next to the ER (earned runs), SO (strike outs) and BB (base on balls), it is a number of hits that the pitcher gave up. However, if you see it right after the pitcher's name: Joe Bozo (H, 1), then it stands for a "Hold" and the number right after that is the number of Holds he has been credited:

Hold

A Hold is credited any time a relief pitcher enters a game in a Save Situation, records at least one out, and leaves the game never having relinquished the lead. Note: a pitcher cannot finish the game and receive credit for a Hold, nor can he earn a hold and a save.

a "Hit" which is when the batter reaches base without the defence making an error, and a hit could be any of the following: a single (the first base) a double (the second base) a triple (the third base) or a home run (reaching home plate, back where you started by either hitting the ball out of the parks dimensions or getting an inside the park home run, the hardest thing to do in Baseball)

Hits. A Hit is scored when a batter safely makes it to first base.
