The term icing a kicker refers to the practice of calling a time out immediately before an opposing team attempts a field goal, usually late in games. The theory is that it places additional mental pressure on the kicker; it also creates a better chance that the kickers leg will tighten up and may not be stretched out enough to be accurate. In the cowboys game against the cardnals, however, the Cowboys special teams coach asked for a time out before his own kicker attempted a game winning field goal. The kick was a success but was voided, and the second attempt failed.
