Total bases. For example if a batter has two singles, a double and a home run, this would be eight total bases. It's one for a single, two for a double, three for a triple and four for a home run.
'A' stands for Assist and is a defensive statistic. Players are given assists when they help in getting a runner out but do not actually make the putout. For example, if a batter hits a ground ball to the shortstop and the shortstop throws thebatter out at first base, the shortstop is credited with an assist and the first baseman is credited with a putout.
Assist. This is on defense when a player does not get a putout, but helps in making the putout. For instance, on a double play grounder to the SS, he will flip the ball to the 2B on second base, then the 2B will throw it to first to get the original batter. The SS will get a put out for the guy on second, and an assist for the guy thrown out at first.
There is also an outfield assist (OA) where the outfielder will throw the ball into the infield and the infielder will throw it to 3rd or Home and get a runner.
