They operate like your average car. The only difference is they have intercoolers designed to keep a cooler temp. They use upgraded water pumps to keep the fluids cooling the engine. If you run low on water the pump still turns but it will not pump air. So what happens is the water will boil out and steam. No water will cause the engine to overheat and eventually you will blow the engine.
