The 1980 Cardinals uniform was identical to that of the 1979 uniform. The 1979-1980 uniform was very similar to the uniform the Cardinals wore from 1976-1978 and 1981-1984, with the execption of the placement of the uniform number.
In 1979 and 1980, there was no uniform number on the front of the jersey. Instead, a smaller uniform number appeared on the side of each sleeve, just above the trim striping.
Overall, the home uniform was white, double-knit pullover (no front shirt buttons). The 6th version of the famous "birds on bat" logo placed on the front of the jersey (yellow bat with one red cardinal perched on either side, and a red script "Cardinals" hanging from the left end of the bat, with the "C" hooked on the bat - all embroidered, all trimmed in navy blue).
The neck, sleeves, elastic pants slash, and side of uniform pants were all trimmed in navy blue/white/cardinal red striping.
The stirrups were Cardinal red, and the striping (when players chose to show it under the pants leg) was two navy blue stripes on either side of one red stripe on a solid white field at the top of the cardinal red sock.
The hat for both home and road was solid cardinal red, with a white "S T L" logo outlined by a thin navy blue line.
The uniform number did appear as usual on the back of the jersey, with the players last name arching over the number, both in Cardinal red and outlined in navy blue.
The road uniform was identical, except instead of white, it was a powder blue.
The Cardinals sported this powder blue look on the road from 1976 through the 1984 season. From 1971 through 1975, and again from 1985 through 1991, the road uniform was grey.
Before 1971, and again in 1992, the Cardinals had the traditional button down front jersey, with belted trousers, instead of the pullovers with the built-in sash belt.

Will the Cardinals get new look uniforms when they move to the new stadium and when will they get an alternate uniform like everyone else?
Since they have not registered a change of uniform request with MLB, there will not be one for 2006. The baby-blue uniforms of the 80s notwithstanding, the Cardinals are a tradition rich organization that is not one for the flair of the alternate uniform. I doubt we'll see it any time soon with the Redbirds.
