Many people believe that Surfing was invented by Hawaiians, historical documents have disproved this . It was actually invented in Polynesia according to the records of 18th century sailors, some people claim it was invented in ancient South America first, this type of surfing was not the same as what we know as surfing today however and has not been conclusively proven at all, only claimed.

∙ 15y agoHistory has not recorded who the inventor of the surfboard was, however, the first record of surfing in Hawaii came from the journals of Captain James Cook from the 1700s. At the time, surfing had already been an integral part of Hawaiian culture for generations. He is right about the first record of surfing by Captain James Cook. what happened was that they needed a way to come into the shore, without bringing the boat. So they took wood off the boat and surfed it in. Hence surfing. The first real surfboard was probably created by one of the old surfboard manufcatores such as hobie
