What baseball players survived cancer?

In early 1999 Andres Galarraga, then playing with the Atlanta Braves, was diagonosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He missed the entire 1999 season but came back in 2000 and played until 2003.

In 1997 Eric Davis, then with the Baltimore Orioles, was diagnosed with colon cancer. Davis came back to the team at the end of the season while still in treatment. His 1998 season was one of the best of his career as he hit .327 with 28 home runs. Davis retired after the 2001 season.

In 1996 Brett Butler, then playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsils. The tumor was surgically removed and he too came back at the end of the season. Butler retired after the 1997 season.

In 1998 Darryl Strawberry, then with the New York Yankees, was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had surgery to remove the tumor and 24 inches of his colon. He came back in 1999 but played only 24 games and retired at the end of the season.

And most recently, Jon Lester of the Boston Red Sox was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in September, 2006. He pitched his first ball game since the diagnosis on July 23, 2007. He has pronounced himself cancer-free.
