the rules of a triathlon are:

1.you are not allowed unecessary advantages like a motor on your bike or someone helping you in the transision

2.no violence

3.you have to do exactly the right amount of laps/lengths or distance
Triathlon is a swim-bike-run event, with the basic rules requiring that you complete the specified distances, in order, without assistance - mechanical or otherwise. Other than that, there are a whole host of specific "rules" governing each discipline, such as no-drafting rules, appropriate attire, helmet requirements, race-number-display requirements, etc. Each race/location may have their own peculiar rules on account of race- or location-specific particulars. Generally speaking though, many triathlons are sanctioned by one of the sport's governing bodies, such as the USAT or the ITU, which each have their own set of comprehensive rules.
