In the 70s and 80s it has helped mainstream some of the worst things plaguing our society today. Even the rules foster negative influences. Example: rather than scoring being something of great achievement, requiring hard work and persistence, in Basketball each team regularly scores 50 or more times in a game. If there was ever a professional basketball game that ended 0 - 0 there would literally be riots rather than an appreciation for the game itself as you have had in hockey, soccer, etc.

Things like the tiniest touch to a player shooting a ball draw 'penalties' where in more masculine sports like hockey or football a major part of the game is to play through the real threat of injury at any moment including when trying to score.
