Well first of all, in ancient Greece when they had the Olympics they had chariot races, gladiators fight each other, etc. i learned about this last year in sixth grade when we learned about ancient Greece from our text books. now we don't have either one of those as a sport.

The Olympic Games were a grand festival famous all over the country. In this essay I will explain how the Ancient Greek Olympic Games have changed through time.

The Games began over 2,700 years ago in Olympia, in southwest Greece. The Games were part of a religious festival. The Greek Olympics, thought to have begun in 776 BC, inspired the modern Olympic Games (begun in 1896).

Held in honour of Zeus, king of the gods, people from all over Greece would travel miles to watch and take part in the games. Like today, different categorised groups of people would take part hoping to achieve gold. However unlike the modern Olympics, where countries are against countries, each state (e.g. Athens and Argos) would use their natives in order to win Gold.

Though unlike the modern Olympics, the behaviour from the players, coaches and supporters was terrible. Many cities would cheat and hurt the opponents so they could have victory.
