The baselines are the end lines that runs under each basket; if a player who has the ball steps on, dribbles on, or passes over this line, the ball is considered out of bounds and the ball is given to the opposing team. The foul lines is where you get to shoot free throws when a foul is called on the opposing team (15 feet away from each Basketball hoop). The 3 point lines (the arch-shaped line; currently 19.9 feet away from the hoop but is going to be moved back to 20.9 feet away from each basketball hoop) if which you make a basket with both feet behind this line, your team will be rewarded 3 points. The half court line passes through the middle of the court; you cannot go over this line and back (your team will be penalized with a backcourt violation in which the opposing team will then gain possession of the ball). The sidelines are the lines that run along the long sides of the basketball court; if a player who has the ball steps on, dribbles on, or passes over this line, the ball is considered out of bounds and the ball is given to the opposing team.
